Get an early copy of the new novel Utopia PR

My next novel Utopia PR will be in readers’ hands in just one (hopefully short) month! Personally, I can’t wait for Feb. 22, so I’ve set up a couple ways for you to get an early copy of the eBook edition.

For Kindle owners who enjoy a good game of chance (and frankly, who doesn’t?), I present to you this Goodreads giveaway! Enter to win one of 100 free copies of the Kindle edition. The contest ends Feb. 12, meaning you’ll get the book more than a week early!

For those who want an early copy and don’t mind paying $2.99, I will have a pre-sale on Smashwords starting on Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day! The pre-sale is open only to members of The Underground, my free-to-join e-newsletter.

Prefer a physical book and don’t mind waiting for Feb. 22? I’m excited to announce the paperback edition is now available to pre-order on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, with more booksellers expected to add it soon. The eBook was already available for pre-order on those sites, plus Apple, Google Play and Kobo.

Utopia PR continues to garner positive early praise!

“In a tale that’s reminiscent of political farces such as the HBO TV series Veep, Bender employs a smooth, amusing, and straightforward prose style that’s briskly paced … Its tone is irreverent, and readers looking for a quick chuckle will likely enjoy Bender’s winking comedy, which is punctuated with genuinely sweet, sincere moments.” — Kirkus Reviews

I’m even more excited to hear what you think. Please leave a customer review wherever you get a copy or on Goodreads. I’m an indie author with a limited marketing budget, so your help spreading the word really makes a difference.

Book reviewers may also obtain an ARC at NetGalley. If you write a review, please contact me to let me know and I’ll be happy to feature it on my blog or via social media. I’m also available for interviews if so desired.

Thanks for all your support!

The Wanderer Wins Gold for Dystopia Fiction in Miami

Welcome to Miami!

It was a few months ago that I learned that I had won a Readers’ Favorite gold medal for my novel The Wanderer and the New West in the Dystopia Fiction category. But I don’t know if it really clicked until I got to the award ceremony in Miami and this happened…

Ego trip aside, it was really great to meet so many other cool indie authors who won awards. We talked about our books, compared notes on marketing tricks, and generally had a good time. We learned from other creators like R.J. Tolson and Eddie Price, as well as media expert Burke Allen and legendary literary agent Frank Weimann.

Readers’ Favorite displayed our novels at the Miami Book Fair, with money from the sales going to St. Jude’s Hospital. Here are some pictures from the booth…

Incidentally, you should really check out the Miami Book Fair next year! I had a really good time perusing the abundance of books on display, and seeing White House reporter April Ryan talk about what it’s like to cover President Trump (whew)! Miami itself is a fun city with a great beach, vibrant culture and exceptional Latin food and drinks.

Oh, and it sure was nice to soak in some sun in the middle of November. It was snowing back home in Philly! Right now outside my window, it’s a gray morning… wouldn’t mind a return to the Sunshine State soon!

When can I go back?

Making the New West (and other updates)

Thanks to everyone who’s picked up The Wanderer and the New West, my dystopian western novel about a possible America that fully protects the rights of armed citizens to stand their ground. Here are a few updates on the novel since launch.

I wrote a guest blog post for Reedsy about creating the cover and interior layout with my collaborators Ben Mcleod and Mark Thomas. I worked hard to write my new novel, so when it came time to publish, I wanted to create a beautiful book that did the words justice.

Last month, I told you about the great review I received from Kirkus Reviews. Since then, Kirkus featured the starred review in their Feb. 15 issue! If you’re a subscriber, you can read the review on page 169 of Volume LXXXVI, No 4.

Look for my book listing in an upcoming issue of the New York Review of Books due out next month!

Want to try The Wanderer before you buy it? I’ve created a handy preview page for just this purpose!

All of my novels are now available to buy on Google Play and Google Books. Click here to see for yourself, though that Compendium Theory one isn’t me…
